Yes, there are water taps and drinking fountains available in most towns along the Rail Trail.
Loch: Sunnyside Park (water tap).
Leongatha: Railway Precinct (drinking fountain), Horticultural Park (drinking fountain).
Koonwarra: Drinking fountain.
Meeniyan: Tanderra Park (drinking fountain).
Fish Creek: Drinking fountain.
Foster: Foster Station Park (water tap), Pearl Park (drinking fountain).
Toora: Sagasser Park (water tap).
Welshpool: Anchor Park (drinking fountain).
Yarram: Tarra Trail Reserve (drinking fountain).
Drinks are also available for purchase from businesses within the towns.

Where can I stay?

There is a variety of accommodation including self-catering, B&B, motel and caravan parks in towns along and near the Rail Trail.

Can I camp along the Rail Trail?

No. However, there are Caravan Parks with camping available in the following towns:

There are access points along the entire length of the Rail Trail. For parking details, go to the ‘Journey’ page and scroll down to the ‘Explore Town by Town’ feature.

Are dogs allowed on the Rail Trail?

Yes, but they must always be on a lead. Please pick up after your dog.

Which is the highest section on the Rail Trail?

Loch to Korumburra and then Fish Creek to Foster.
The website has an interactive map in the ‘Journey’ section – simply click on the town you wish to start and end in, and the map will provide you with the total distance and a graph of elevation.
You can also view the distance and elevation of each section by clicking on the appropriate section in the ‘Explore Town by Town’ feature, located on the homepage and ‘Journey’ page.

Will I have mobile phone coverage?

Mobile phone coverage will vary depending on your carrier. For some sections, you may have a weaker signal or no coverage at all.

What are some tips and recommendations?

Bring sunscreen, a First Aid Kit, water, snacks, bike repair kit, pack layers, and be prepared for all seasons.

What is the Rail Trail surface?

The surface is a compacted granitic sand. However, approximately 2.5 kilometres from Koonwarra, there is a 650 metre section of the trail surface that is concrete.
